CCTV Mirror
Audio/visual installation, presented at Goldsmiths University, London (2009)
This work, a collaboration with artist Ricardo Carvalho, is an interactive work in which the motions of visitors are picked up by a CCTV camera. The movements are used to manipulate the size and position of a grid of tiny CCTV recordings projected on the far wall, and this visual feedback to visitors encourages more interaction. At the same time the movements create an audioscape, by being used to trigger street noise recordings from outside.
The piece attempts to investigates our increasing ease with being monitored and recorded. The video feedback is designed to work like a mirror, feeding back information in real-time, but with the added implication of surveillance.
