Top of the Pops

Audio/visual installation, presented at the Elevator Gallery, London (2010)

'Top of the Pops' was a British TV show that ran for 42 years from 1964 to 2006. On it's cancellation, the Dead Pets Society organised parties at the Elevator Gallery in Hackney Wick to commemorate the show. This responsive audio/visual installation was created for the main entrance to set the tone for the party.

The TVs play back a synchronised 'star' pattern until movement is sensed in front of them, at which point each will individually select moments from the show. Each TV has an infra-red sensor which is connected to a computer which controls playback.

The work was designed to integrate seamlessly with the orignal TV show and the event, by offering a way for visitors to interact directly with familiar sequences in the format in which they were delivered - on TV.
